Having a hell of a time with comments on OPPO (sporadically) since the recent Firefox update.

Enhanced Tracking Protection is OFF, and all my adblockers are off.

Wonder of wonders, Jalopnik comments are working. So confused...

Yep and yep, and they’ve been borked for a couple months at least. Sometimes they’ll show up after a few refreshes (took around 8-10 to comment here) .

But, yeah, FP comments show up more often on FF, though on ios/safari, Oppo comments always show up, but FP comments never do.

Not regularly. I’m not shocked Kinja isn’t working well though. And frankl y with Firefox at like ~ 3.5% market share, I’m not sure I blame them for not worrying too much about it either (not that comments have been working super well under Chrome).

My IT guy here at work requested I use Firefox instead of Chrome on my new machine. We’ll see...

Pretty funny - I was trying to comment on your post with this:

That I-N gap is painful.

Kinja'd!!!

I can get to comments on my posts pretty well, but it’s a challenge on other posts.

Yeah, it may come down to just logging in to Kinja on Edge.

That’s what I use at home (on my Mac) - our IT guy requested us to use Firefox (if not Edge) here at work.

Hmm, my IT department specifically bans Firefox (even though I’m a developer and need to use it for testing sometimes), and actually goes so far as to automatically remove it if you manage to get around their restrictions and install it. Their primary concern is just reducing attack surface, and they think Firefox is pretty expendable if they let people use Chrome and Edge. They also for some reason have a strong dislike for non-corporate backed open source software, I’m not sure entirely why, but I think they are worried that some copyrighted code could sneak in, and we could get sued, and the Mozilla Foundation is much less likely to have the resources to squash spurious lawsuits than the heavy hitters at Google and Microsoft.

Kinja and Firefox has been a known issue for a few months now. I contacted sup port about it and they know about the issue but said they don’t have the staff to sort it out due to COVID right now. After refreshing a few times comments sometimes load on Firefox, but otherwise I just copy paste the link into Chrome and comment there (I still use Firefox for everything else).

Almost as much fun as Safari allowing me to comment on Oppo, but showing that I am not even logged in to the Jalopnik front page, and completely botching the social media authentication hand-off.

As much as I don’t like Edge, I use it for this and other minor personal web surfing on Windows 10 ... and separate F irefox on both Mac OS and Windows 10 for work, and not social media sites.

That’s funny - I keep Edge to work stuff, and Firefox for personal.

I like Firefox’s account synchronization across devices, and generally standardized behaviors, so I use it at work all day on various devices, along with LastPass and Trend Micro for security management.

I use E dge, or very occasionally Opera on non-Windows systems for social media because of the propensity for social websites writing code for Microsoft browsers, and not always developing for reliable performance on others, like Safari or Firefox, despite the quality or standards-compliance of the browser coding. I also don’t bother synchronizing the favorites or preferences across devices... and if something raises a security red-flag, I can wipe the browser back to default and eradicate the cookies, caches, extensions, without too much worry...

I don’t have a problem with the way Chrome renders websites... other than the fact that I don’t like Google’s M-O of the end user being the product that they use and sell to others... although I hold my nose on that, and wade through YouTube more than I should... because that is where the content tends to be.

I’m way more Google-centric than I probably should be: Gmail, Gcal, Gmaps, Chrome at home and on my phone... but they do services very well.

Fishermen buy a lot of expensive BAIT, too.

Good services that work really well, and become so good that they become defacto, are what attracts people to populate the analytics, making the analytics more accurate, more valuable, more profitable, and more powerful.

My favorite idiom on that is...

“I f you aren’t paying the bill, you’re on the menu, because lunch isn’t free. ”

I’ve been using Edge on Windows 10 for at least the last year, since it seems to handle Kinja fuckery better than any other browser. (And zero ads, with a certain filter customization in AdBlock!)

I don’t use Edge for anything other than shitposting commenting on Jalopnik, the Takeout, etc.

I usually use Chrome where I have a handful of extensions running that help make Kinja (and other places on the inter net) a little more tolerable. Unfortunately, o ne or more of those extensions have a weird habit of adding a blank line to my commen ts that annoys me. So I use Firefox pretty frequently to edit comments before that   15 min window expires , and sometimes I just compose the entire comment in Firefox and post it from there .
